How to Turn On 2FA for Amazon Web Services

Please note: Specific instructions for enabling 2FA are subject to change without notice. Please check with each website or app for the most up-to-date information on this feature.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is a simple best practice that adds an extra layer of protection on top of your user name and password. With MFA enabled, when a user signs in to an AWS website, they will be prompted for their user name and password (the first factor—what they know), as well as for an authentication code from their AWS MFA device (the second factor—what they have). Taken together, these multiple factors provide increased security for your AWS account settings and resources.

AWS MFA is available via Virtual MFA Device, Hardware Key Fob MFA Device or Hardware Display Card MFA Device. The video below provides instructions for each option.
