How to Turn On 2FA for Rackspace

Please note: Specific instructions for enabling 2FA are subject to change without notice. Please check with each website or app for the most up-to-date information on this feature.

Two-factor authentication uses a paired device (like a mobile phone) to provide an extra layer of security when accessing your account and is a significant security improvement over using a password alone. The instructions below explain how to manage two-factor authentication for your Rackspace account. Log in to MyRackspace to manage your two-factor authentication settings.

1. To manage the two-factor authentication settings, the administrative user starts by logging into the MyRackspace control panel.

2. Once logged in to MyRackspace, click on the “User List” under the “Account” tab to access your two-factor authentication settings.

3. From the menu bar in the User List, you will see two new links: “Two-Factor Login Administration” and “My Two-Factor Devices.”

4. Click on the “Two-Factor Login Administration” link to access the authentication settings.

There are two options: You can make two-factor authentication required for all users on the account, or you can allow individuals to choose whether or not to use two-factor authentication by specifying the “Optional per user” setting.

  • Selecting “Optional per user” will prompt users to register a paired SMS-capable device on their next login if they want to get started using two-factor authentication.

  • Choosing “Required for all users on this account” enables two-factor authentication for all users, and all users will be prompted to register a paired device on their next login.

5. If two-factor authentication is enabled for your user account, you must register a new SMS-capable device to pair with your account.

Enter the phone number of your SMS-capable phone to begin the device registration process. After entering the phone number of your device you will receive an SMS (text) message with a 4-digit PIN code.

6.  To complete verification of your device, enter the 4-digit PIN that you received. Once your PIN is successfully entered and accepted, you will be granted access to MyRackspace.
